What is psychotherapy and how do I know if it's right for me?+
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process between you and a trained therapist to explore thoughts, emotions, patterns, and experiences that may be holding you back. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply want to understand yourself better — therapy can help. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit.
What's the difference between an RP and an RP(Q)?+
Both are trained professionals regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). An RP(Q) is completing their supervised hours toward full registration. At Believe Therapy & Coaching, all RP(Q) associates are supervised by our Founder & Clinical Director, Amelia Dowell, ensuring consistent quality of care.
Do you offer virtual sessions?+
Yes. We offer both in-person sessions at our Westboro, Ottawa office and secure virtual sessions for clients across Ontario.
Is therapy covered by insurance?+
Many extended health benefit plans cover registered psychotherapy. We provide receipts after every session for reimbursement purposes and offer direct billing to select insurers, including Medavie Blue Cross. We recommend confirming your coverage with your provider before your first appointment.
Do you offer a free consultation?+
Yes. We offer a complimentary 20-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions, get a feel for your therapist, and determine if we're the right fit before committing to a full session.
How long does therapy take?+
It depends on your goals and what you're working through. Some clients find meaningful progress in 8–12 sessions; others benefit from longer-term support. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all timelines — your therapist will work with you to set goals and revisit them regularly.
Do you offer therapy in languages other than English?+
Yes. We offer services in English, French, and Punjabi. Please mention your language preference when you book.
Do you offer direct billing?+
We direct bill Medavie Blue Cross, including for VAC-funded Veterans therapy. Contact us before your first appointment to confirm eligibility.
What is Intuitive Eating therapy?+
Intuitive Eating is an evidence-based, non-diet framework that helps clients rebuild trust with their bodies and heal their relationship with food. It is psychotherapy that addresses the emotional, relational, and cultural dimensions of how we eat. Amelia Dowell is completing her Intuitive Eating Counsellor (IEC) certification.
Do you work with Veterans?+
Yes. We offer specialized, trauma-informed therapy for Veterans and First Responders, and we direct bill Medavie Blue Cross for VAC-covered sessions. Contact us to discuss your coverage and get started.
